Imagination Station Summer Camps 2009
June 8-July 31, 2009

All camps run every day, Monday-Friday (one full week)
Morning camps are from 9-noon (pre-school camps are mornings only)
Afternoon camps are from 1-4 pm
One Camp- Members $115, Non-Members $125
Combo Camps are-two camps running the same week. Register for morning and afternoon of same week (12-1 for lunch and active play)
Combo camps- Members $170, Non-Members $180

  • Payment for camp is due in full upon registration. Checks may be made to Children's Museum of Oak Ridge. We also accept Master Card and Visa payments by phone, and online payments through PayPal.
  • All registration paperwork is due by 8 am ten business days prior to the first day of camp.
  • Registrations can be accepted after 10-ten-day deadline if space is available.
  • Cancellations received after 8am ten business days prior to the start of camp are subject to a $25.00 cancellation fee.

Preschool (Ages 3-5)

All pre-school camps are from 9-noon.
Each class includes arts and crafts activities, songs, games, stories and a daily snack. Children must be able to use the toilet independently.
Pre-school camps run mornings only: Members $115, Non-Members $125

    Fairytale Fancies
    Fancy yourself a Princess or Prince Charming in this camp all about fairytales.

  • June 15-19
    Cookin’ Kids
    Tomorrow’s chefs will stir, mash, roll, and mix yummy foods.

  • June 22-26
    All Aboard
    Campers will explore trains like Thomas the Tank, The Little Engine That Could and our own train exhibit.

  • July 6-10
    Mommy Earth
    Budding adventurers will explore the far reaches of Planet Earth. Plant, paint and protect the earth.

  • July 13-17
    Blue's Clues
    Each day campers will collect clues to solve a new mystery.

  • July 20-24
    Jitterbug
    Jitterbugs and wiggle worms will delight in this camp all about movement, music, and dance.

  • July 27-31
    Jungle Jaunt
    Campers will go on a jungle Safari discovering creatures of the forest and will have a stampede on Friday!

6-8 (First-Third Grade)

  • June 8-12, 9-noon
    Superhero Academy
    Ever wanted to be a superhero? Here’s your chance. Become your own superhero (no vat of toxic waste necessary!), and save the world using your super powers. Make your own costume and comic book.

  • June 8-12, 1-4pm
    Up, Up, and Away
    Explore the world of flying machines. Fly through the sky with kites, catapults, and hovercraft. Then soar through the Milky Way with rockets. Materials Fee $20

  • June 15-19, 9-noon
    Eco-Warriors
    Create your own personal eco-hero identity, hunting down eco-villains like pollution and wasted energy. Learn how you, yes YOU, can help save the Earth. Do scientific experiments, and reuse found objects for art.

  • June 15-19, 1-4pm
    Crafty Corner
    Create your own yarn doll, make animals from seashells, fashion some jewelry, make a tri-fold picture stand, paint a pajama bag, put together a decorative hanging and more.

  • June 22-26, 9-noon
    Ocean Adventure
    Dive into the deep to learn about the secret lives of ocean creatures. Find out why the lantern fish glows, explore a hydrothermal vent, make your very own pet wave, create an undersea mural and compose a sea song.

  • June 22-26, 1-4pm
    Animals Unleashed
    Explore the different habitats of the world, learning about common creatures and exotic ones, too. Create your own creature with the right combination of legs, mouths, and wings that give them super powers.

  • June 6-10, 9-noon
    Space Invaders
    Go beyond the earth's atmosphere and discover space. Make your own pinhole viewer and sundial while exploring the planets and sun.

  • July 6-10, 1-4pm
    Mad Scientist
    Be the mad scientist’s assistant and go wild in the lab! Perform experiments with everyday materials and create super slime.

  • July 13-17, 9-noon
    Treasure Trackers
    Track down rubies, gold, diamonds, and pearls around the world to create your own bling. Make a treasure map and follow the clues to find hidden treasure.

  • July 13-17, 1-4pm
    Dancing With The Disney Stars
    Learn the moves of your favorites like Camp Rock, Spectacular, and High School Musical, then rock out on stage Friday for your family.

  • July 20-24, 9-noon
    From Junky Food to Funky Food
    Learn how to make home made versions of your favorite foods like pizza, potato chips, fruit snacks, and ice cream. Materials Fee: $5.00

  • July 20-24, 1-4pm
    Mega Art
    Let’s get messy making mega-sized art. Use wire, paper, balloons, cloth, paint, and found objects to create masterpieces bigger than you are.

  • July 27-31, 9-noon
    Dino Invasion
    Explore the prehistoric world of the tyrannosaurus rex, stegosaurus, triceratops, and pterodactyl. Find out where they lived, how big they were, and what they ate, all while constructing your own dinosaur skeleton. Design a mural and create a prehistoric persona.

    Icky Sticky
    Prepare yourself for all things creepy and gross! Discover weird animals, make disgustingly delicious dishes [queasy cuisine], and create ghoulish paintings and spine chilling tunes.

9-12 (Fourth-Seventh Grade)

    Widget Workshop
    Welcome to the widget workshop, where ordinary objects become extraordinary creations! Learn how to power a light bulb with a pickle, create a robot hand, a tumblewing and more

    Movie Magic
    Welcome to Hollywood! Learn the basics of showbiz as you make your own movie. Campers will design the costumes and set, write the script, and act. No movie would be complete without a red carpet premiere on Friday.

  • June 15-19 9-noon
    Revamp My Room
    Wanna make over your bedroom? Add some flare to your lair with a new lamp and pillow. Craft a pencil holder and a box for treasures. Create a jewelry-box, jazz up a mirror, create a photo display,and more.

  • June 15-19 1-4pm
    So You Think You Can Dance
    Learn classic dances like the tango and swing as well as some contemporary dance moves and dances from your favorite musicals. Then choreograph and perform a show for your parents on Friday.

  • June 22-26 9-noon
    Model Railroad Layout Construction
    Hands on experience in building and setting up model train layouts using T-Track concepts. Learn train sizes and types and how they work. Train will run over connected layouts on Friday.
    Materials fee $ 25.00

  • June 22-26 1-4pm
    A World of Trains
    Travel the Orient Express, ride the rails through Appalachia, and experience the history of art, music and dance. Passengers will create hobo art; become a chief on a dining car and dance to the melodies and stories of American folk heroes. Join us as we travel routes only discovered by rail.
    Materials Fee: $5.00

    Naturally Speaking
    Want to be eco-friendly? Help tend our vegetable and native plant gardens, cook organic foods and make a solar-powered oven.

  • July 6-10 1-4pm
    Baker's Delight
    Bake your favorite treats including muffins, cookies, pies, and tarts. Learn how to bake and decorate cakes like a professional.
    Materials Fee: $5.00

  • July 13-17 9-noon
    Mystery & Mayhem
    Like Sherlock Holmes and Nancy Drew? Then you’ll love this camp. Solve cases right here at the Children’s Museum with a new mystery game each day.

  • July 13- 17 1-4pm
    European Vacation
    Backpack through Europe right here at the Children’s Museum! Learn interesting facts about European countries, go sightseeing through pictures, and prepare traditional dishes from France, Italy, Poland, and more.

  • July 20-24 9-noon
    Imagination Station Publishing Co.
    Explore the wonderful world of print as you make your own magazine, newspaper, book, or comic strip. Celebrate your work with a release party on Friday!

  • July 20-24 1-4pm
    Art Expo
    Explore the wide world of art through printmaking, photography, tie-dye, clay, painting, collage, and mixed media.

  • July 27-31 9-noon
    Ancient Wonders
    Travel back in time to ancient civilizations and uncover the seven wonders of the ancient world. Walk like an Egyptian, build a Mayan temple, write like a scribe, make a mummy, master events from the first Olympics, and make traditional garb and food.

    Extreme Experiments
    Calling all future scientists! Be prepared to get messy making geysers, mini volcanoes and much more.

    Ages 6-12 years
    Basic pottery class for using hand tools for clay. Create your own coil vase, bowl, handmade mask, and fantasy critter.

    Wheel Work
    Ages 10-12
    Learn basic wheel techniques and create a usable bowl, cup and vase.

    Ages 10-12
    Learn basic wheel techniques and create a usable bowl, cup and vase.

    Sculpture class.

    Learn the sculptural approach of Louise Nevelson by making a tabletop sculpture using multi-media.

    Printing
    Ages 6-12
    Learn the basics of printmaking techniques and design your own clay plate to make prints.

    Introduction to wheel throwing or improve throwing techniques. Create your own mugs, plates, platters, and trays.
